National Table Tennis Day 2019 promises to be the most varied yet with scores of organisations across the country preparing to celebrate the big day – which is now just over a week away.
Table tennis clubs and leagues will feature prominently, but there are numerous other events at schools, workplaces, leisure centres and shopping centres.
Organisations hosting events also include councils, Scout groups, social table tennis venues, care providers and even a local Jobcentre.
They spread from Plymouth to Northumberland and Liverpool to Bexhill-on-Sea, meaning the celebration on Thursday, July 18th will reach all corners of England.
There is an exciting variety to the events, with tournaments, taster sessions and open days featuring strongly, alongside some more off-beat activities.
Stretford Jobcentre staff will be limbering up against a robot on loan from Salford TTC, before the following day sees a knockout tournament.
In Peterborough, Archway TTC will be carrying out a bit of ambush marketing in the city centre with roll net, bats and balls – playing on any available surface and engaging the public to play, showcasing the easy access and entry routes to the sport.
Friends of Luxmore Gardens in Lewisham have organised a table tennis bat-making workshop on Saturday for young people aged 11+ years in conjunction with Lewisham Art House. They will also team up with Fusion TTC for taster sessions under the Table Tennis Day umbrella.
Bath Street Marine TTC will hold a 24-hour table tennis marathon; Croydon Voluntary Action has planned a refugee tournament; and Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust has organised a tournament for hospital inpatients.
The main Table Tennis England event is in Bristol, where Commonwealth Games medallist Maria Tsaptsinos and England junior Louis Price will challenge shoppers in the city centre, before heading to a TT Kidz festival where 100 young people come and have their first taste of TT Kidz, our fun eight-week programme that introduces the great game of table tennis to youngsters of all abilities.
The first 100 organisations to register with us qualified for a goody bag to help make the day go with a swing – you will receive those in the next few days.
Although no more goody bags are available, it is still not too late to register your event with us.
