Food, drink, a round-robin tournament and the chance to take on one of the top players in England – that is all on offer at a fundraising evening for Marie Curie.
Elaine Heyworth has organised the Slice, Slice, Baby event at the new Sink Pong venue near London’s Liverpool Street station.
The tournament, on May 10, costs £30 which will include a welcome drink, food and a minimum of three singles matches, plus a doubles tournament for those eliminated early.
Londoner and England international Darius Knight will be there and open to challenges and there will also be a robot challenge and a charity auction.
The event is part of an ongoing campaign to raise money for Marie Curie by Elaine, who was a volunteer at this year’s PG Mutual National Championships.
She has previously raised £2,500 cycling through the New Forest with her husband and daughters and will next year be taking part in a fundraising trek of the Great Wall of China.
She said: “There are two main reasons why I’ve chosen to do this. First of all, turning 50 this year is a real milestone for me, and I want to make it special.
“My second motivation is to remember the help the Marie Curie nurses gave to my eldest brother Alan, who died in 2008 from esophageal cancer. The Marie Curie nurses do an amazing job, and raising money to fulfil a need is very worthwhile.”
Sink Pong is above the Blueberry Bar at 2-4 Paul St, London EC2A 4JH. The tournament runs from 6pm-11pm, with warm-up from 5pm and is a social tournament not open to league players. Places are limited, so book now to avoid disappointment.
