The Board of Table Tennis England has called an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) as it seeks to restore its suspended Sport England funding.
The EGM will take place at the Mercure Hotel, Milton Keynes, starting at 1pm on Saturday August 12th.
The sole purpose of the meeting is to reconsider the Board’s proposal on governance changes, which was defeated by 0.07% at the AGM on July 8th.
The defeat meant Table Tennis England was in breach of its funding agreement with Sport England, who consequently suspended its funding with immediate effect, freezing almost £9million which was earmarked for the sport.
Sandra Deaton, Chairman of Table Tennis England, said:
The cashflow situation and reputational damage mean time is of the essence and the priority for all of us involved in the sport has to be to get our funding restored, so that we can continue to deliver the huge range of programmes which it enables.
However, we recognise that there is an opportunity to consult with our members, including those who felt unable to support the proposal originally.
We want to ensure that the democratic voice of the membership is represented within the structure of Table Tennis England, therefore the Board has issued a commitment to wide-ranging and thorough review of all governance and Board structures which comply with Sport England’s requirements.
