Swerve TTC made its debut at the recent Junior British League qualifying event at the Grantham Meres Leisure Centre and battled through to seal a qualifying position.
Placed in group two, there was some tough competition from Greenhouse, Darlington Academy, Byng Hall and Burton Uxbridge.
The first group match saw the Swerve girls come up against a reasonable strong Greenhouse B team which saw some close fought matches with two of the six matches reaching five ends as the match was shared 3-3.
Next up was Darlington Academy and Swerve started with two wins, which gave the girls confidence to go on and win 4-2.
Next was Byng Hall girls and the Swerve girls continued their form with a fantastic 6-0 win.
Swerve went into the last match against Burton Uxbridge needing a win or draw to finish with the top position.
Holly Williams kicked matters off with a 3-0 win, before Burton levelled against Madelaine Dunn. Next, Swerve’s Kelsey Bradley walked away with a 3-0 victory, and the match then hinged on the clash between top seeds Williams and Philippa Luxton. The Burton player led 2-1 after Williams won the first, and it was Williams who took the fourth to set up a decider. And Williams stepped up a gear to take the fifth 11-5.
Burton were not about to let the Swerve girls dominate and took the two final matches to finish the group with a 3 -3 draw.
But it was Swerve who won the group to make it a memorable debut for the club in the JBL.
