Another full house and plenty of drama at BATTS saw Swedish trick shot king Johan Hagberg pick up the £600 first prize at the 2* Open.
Enjoying his first season in England, Hagberg has the extraordinary record of just one defeat against home grown opposition, that being Craig Bryant in the British League Premier Division at Nottingham.
This time he dropped only one end throughout (this in a great semi against Adam Nutland) and conquered Mike O’Driscoll in three close games in a hard-fought final that had the spectators enthralled. Mike collected £300 and Adam and Alex Ramsden £100 each.
Ramsden had another fine tournament, despatching dynamic Nigerian Ismaila Akindiya in a see-saw quarter-final that went the distance. Danny Lawrence, Alim Hirji and Costas Papantoniou all played well to reach the quarters.
Anthony Corbin picked up £100 as band B winner with runner-up Samson Bekele collecting £50.
The BATTS Super Series competitions are proving very popular and entry forms for the upcoming Junior and Cadet versions can be found on the Table Tennis England and BATTS websites.
