Charity Tournament – a great success

With over 30 players with ages ranging from nine to 74 and a good mix of abilities, the day proved a great success with £225 being raised for vulnerable children in Kenya, the chosen charity of Oxford Fireplace Centre. OFC have agreed to double the money raised, so the charity will be receiving £450. This money will make a good contribution to the work being undertaken in Kenya and will benefit many children

The main event was a handicap singles played in groups, so all players had a minimum of four matches. This event proved very competitive and it was the junior players that dominated the later stages. Simon Price narrowly beat fellow junior Kavan Warrender to progress to the final, where he defeated the improving Fabian Audifferen.

The Consolation singles was won by coach Nick Langley, who defeated young Ciaran Walsh.

The drawn doubles was won by Nicola Francis and Peter Harris, who defeated Sharon Curtis and Jake East in the final.

The ‘Instant knock-out’ singles event (one point matches) was won by Jamie Felton, who was also the joint winner with young Vicky Coll of the small bat speed challenge. Jake East was victorious in the target challenge competition.

There was a good atmosphere throughout the day, with all players being competitive but also enjoying themselves. Hopefully we can make this an annual event.
