Evie Collier says she is shocked but delighted to be selected to represent Great Britain at the World University Games.

The 20-year-old Nottingham Trent University student got the call up this week to compete at the games in Gwangju, South Korea, in July.

She is one half of the GB table tennis team for the multi-sports event, alongside Scotland’s Sean Doherty.

Evie was selected after an application process which included scrutiny of recent results and performances.

And her record for the likes of her club sides Sycamore and the Belgian team TW Diest, where she plays professionally and who she helped clinch promotion to the Super Division for next season, meant she received the call.

“There was an application system and I decided I had nothing to lose and I just went for it,” said Evie, who is in the second year of a three-year Sports Education and Special Inclusive Education Course.

“I was quite shocked but it’s a great achievement to be selected. It’s nice to be able to represent Great Britain, and travelling to South Korea is a new experience. It’s all very exciting!

“I’ve not really looked which other players are going from other countries. It will be nice going in not knowing what to expect, so I can relax and do the best I can do. As long as I work hard, hopefully it will be good.”

Evie will fly to Korea on July 1 and the competition runds from July 3 to 14.
