Wade Deacon and St Bede’s Schools were both double winners at the Cheshire Schools Table Tennis Team Event.
The tournament covered Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, Halton and Warrington and was held on November 8 at the Halton Table Tennis Centre, Stobart Stadium, Widnes.
The Under-11 Primary Schools Boys’ and Girls’ events were both won by St Bede’s Catholic Junior School, Widnes. The Boys’ A team of Sam Davies, Michael Downey, Douglas Harry and Jacob Potter beat their B team 8-0.
The Girls’ team of Jessica Morris, Edie McGuiness, Beth Rolt and Rosie Ellis beat the St Michael’s, Widnes, team of Natasha Okonska, Laura Murphy, Annaliese Hignet and Libby Coffey 8-0
The Under-13 boys’ final was very tight match with the County High School, Leftwich, team of Cameron Marley, Louie Clague, Hayden Hudson and Lewis Edge beating Tytherington High C team of Sam Perrin, George Barnes, Lewis Moffatt and Tom Hall 5-3.
The Under-13 Girls’ event was won by the Wade Deacon High, Widnes, team of Anna Hartley, Rachel Lane, Abigail Redman and Poppy Jenkins, who beat Saints Peter & Paul, Widnes, 6-2 in the final.
Wade Deacon also won the Under-16 Girls’ category as the team of Niamh Scarborough, Ruby Bennett, Chloe Allen and India Odley received a walkover
In the Under-16 boys, Saints Peter & Paul, Widnes, saw their team of Liam Bibby, Liam Murphy, Joe Davies and James Bowman beat Sandbach School A team of James Courtney, Braden Jones, Carrick Byrne and Kyle Brandreth in the final 6-2 in another tight match
The winning team in each age group now goes forward to represent Cheshire Schools at the Regional Zone Finals at Blackburn in January. The individual Cheshire Schools will take place on February 5, 2019 at Halton TT Centre.
