There were four wins out of five for England as the singles main draw got under way at the European Youth Championships in Bratislava on Thursday.

Helshan Weerasinghe, Tom Jarvis, Alex Ramsden and Harry Dai all made it safely into the last 64, although Sam Mabey saw a 3-1 lead evaporate as he was beaten by Russia’s Nikita Yarushin, ranked No 63 in the world Under-18 rankings.

In the doubles, Weerasinghe & Jarvis and Ramsden & Dai also made it through to the next round in their respective competitions, but Weerasinghe and Tin-Tin Ho were beaten in the mixed.
