Two champion teams return to defend their titles at the English Leagues Cup Competitions finals this weekend.

Teams will be competing for four trophies in total, having made it through the zonal rounds to take their place at Westfield TTC in Wellingborough.

It is the two senior competitions where the champions will be aiming to repeat last year’s triumphs – Nottingham in the Willmott Cup for men and Warrington in the JM Rose Bowl for women.

Rachel Baker and Annie Hudson will both be back in action for Warrington, though they are without Zoe Cheesman, who was also part of last year’s winning team.

For Nottingham, David Arrowsmith again competes but, rather than having Adam Jepson alongside him, will instead line up with John Taylor and Mark Green.

After Saturday’s senior competitions, the focus turns to the juniors on Sunday, when the Carter Cup (boys) and Bromfield Trophy (girls) will be won.

Crawley & Horsham won both competitions last year – and indeed in 2016 – but are not present this time.

Nottingham have the chance to win both the senior and junior male competitions as they have a strong-looking line-up of Max Stevens and brothers Naphat and Naphong Boonyaprapa in the younger age group, but the seven other teams will have something to say about preventing a double.

The Bromfield Trophy has five teams competing, only two of which – Grantham and Plymouth – have won the trophy before and not since Plymouth’s triumph in 2005.

Spectators are welcome and there is no admission charge. The club is based at Weavers Leisure Centre.
