Fusion could be the surprise package in this year’s British League Premier Division and although few people will give them a realistic chance tomorrow afternoon when they face Drumchapel Glasgow they have unquestionably made a superb start to the Season.

This morning’s excellent 7-1 win over BATTS was followed by an equally adept display against Westfield. Sule Olaleye, Adebele Kaseem Adisa and Emran Hussain all stayed undefeated and Lorestas Trumpauskas very nearly followed suit. He only missed out against Richard Andrews 11-7, 11- 7, 8-11, 9-11, 10-12. England no. 49 Emran Hussain marked his Premier Division debut with an excellent 11-7, 8-11, 5-11, 11-3, 11-6 win over England no. 25 Alim Hirji.

Drumchapel Glasgow returned to winning ways against Sycamore, although it wasn’t plain-sailing. Omkar Torgalkar did well to beat Gareth Herbert in four ends and at times Ryan Jenkins looked distinctly uncomfortable against the same opponent before he pulled away in the fourth end to win 11-7, 6-11, 16-14, 11- 5. Terry Young, not at his sharpest but battling as doggedly as ever was extended to five ends in both of his singles. He beat Jason Ramage 9-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-3 and Sam Perry 7-11, 11-5, 11-5, 9-11, 11-7. Craig Howieson, a last gasp 7-11, 11-3, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9 winner against Danny Lowe completed the 7-1 victory by beating Jason Ramage 10-12, 11-4, 11-6, 11-6.

Barrow ran out 6-2 winners against BATTS I, and as a result they don’t lead the table overnight. That honours goes to Fusion. Swedish defender Thomas Bennborn was the toast of the Essex Club. He wove the trickiest of defensive webs as he beat Brad Evans 4-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-5 and in the match of the day he excelled in his second singles. Cutting the ball in half with an air of defensive authority sadly missing from the English Table Tennis male scene in recent years he scored a brilliant 12-14, 11-8, 1-11, 11-9, 15-13 victory over Scottish no. one Gavin Rumgay.

Ormesby will be pleased with their 5-3 victory over DHS Greenhouse Progress.

A good performance in anyone’s book, but especially so when at one stage they were having trouble raising a team. John Murphy, a double winner against Westfield again excelled. This time he beat Ashley Willetts 11-7, 11-6, 11-5 as well as Jason Sugrue (11-5, 11-2, 9-11, 11-7), good going as Sugrue had earlier beaten Michael Marsden 11-2. 12-10, 11-9. Andy Wilson – the most loyal of Club members, and who is always ready to join the Middlesbrough Club’s first team squad as well as performing an integral role for the Club’s second team.secured his side’s victory. He rounded things off with an excellent 13-11, 11- 6, 11-4 win over England no. one Cadet Boy Igor Morais.
