Do you know a Lockdown Hero who has made an impact during the coronavirus crisis? Now is your chance to honour them!

Throughout the lockdown period we have seen how the table tennis community has helped many people through a time of great difficulty.

Whether this has been keeping people safe, helping with food shops, contacting people via phone calls or social media, online training sessions, fitness sessions via video calls, donating equipment, creating quizzes and daily challenges, raising money for charity or making light hearted videos, the table tennis family has provided support and a welcome distraction during such uncertain times.

Therefore, this year we are pleased to introduce the Lockdown Local Hero award to the Pride of Table Tennis programme.

This new award recognises a person, club or organisation for the impact they have made on an individual, club or local community during the coronavirus pandemic. They may have innovated to meet local demand, ensured local clubs or communities stayed connected or supported individuals’ physical and/or mental well-being in this period.

Johnathon Driscoll, who leads for the Pride of Table Tennis Awards at Table Tennis England, said: “It has been a profoundly difficult time for many, many people. However, through this time we have seen a great resilience from people, clubs and the local communities to give a glimmer of hope and joy through lockdown.

“In the table tennis community in particular, we have seen the togetherness to support and connect people in various ways.

“During tough times, we see heroes emerge and often, the heroes, who work modestly in the background, do not expect anything in return. However, we are asking for your help to honour your Lockdown Hero and give them recognition they thoroughly deserve. “

If you know an individual, club or organisation that has made a difference during lockdown, this is your chance to recognise their efforts. Each person nominated will receive a certificate and be put forward to the national award which will take place in June next year.

Nominations close at 5pm on Friday October 2.
