Hundreds of youngsters are preparing to represent their schools as the Butterfly School Team Championships moves into the Zone Finals phase.

Finals take place in eight zones, from Cumbria to Plymouth on the weekend of January 18-19, with the exception of Zone 6 in London which is on Saturday January 11 – click here for details of the times and venues of each zone

A total of 265 school teams will be in action, all looking to book their places in the regional finals which follow on February 8 and 9. The best schools at those finals will qualify for the Butterfly National School Team Championship Finals to be held at Hinckley on March 14.

The action takes place in four age groups – U11, U13, U16 and U19 – with both boys and girls on the tables. Three defending national champions from last year will be involved:

  • Tanbridge House School, Horsham (West Sussex) – Under-16 Boys
  • Earls Hall Primary, Westcliff-on-Sea (Essex) – Under-11 Boys
  • Redlands Primary, Worksop (Notts) – Under-11 Girls

In addition, both Under-13 winners from last year – St Mary’s College, Hull (Boys) and Ripley St Thomas High, Lancaster (Girls) are now competing in the older Under-16 age group.
