Have you seen the table tennis 50p coin yet? What do you think of the design?

In January 2009 the Royal Mint launched its biggest ever competition, inviting the British public to design a series of new 50p coins. Thousands of excellent designs were received from all over the UK, featuring all 29 sports of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The best designs were selected and now they’ve been made into coins for you to collect.

The designer of the Table Tennis coin

Alan Linsdell, a retired illustrator from Manchester, designed the table tennis coin as he has a strong affiliation with the sport. Throughout his life he has switched between playing table tennis and badminton and his knowledge of the sport is conveyed through his design.
