Oxford sent a contingent of four players to compete in the 92-strong Uxbridge TTC Open, held at Burton-on-Trent (Derbyshire) on Sunday, 9th June. The two youngest, Reece Chamdal (11) and Vicky Coll (12), were the most successful, battling their way through the field to reach the semi-finals of their respective Under 13 events.
Kavan Warrender (15) also played very well to win his initial groups in Cadets and in Juniors, but went out of both in the round of the last 16.
Vietnamese newcomer Minh Van (16) took time off from her extensive AS-level studies at D’Overbroecks to participate in her first ever Open tournament. She struggled at first, but ended up having several close matches, including a victory over Annabel Cox (Bucks).
