The best Cadet players in England converge on Burton Uxbridge TTC this weekend for the final Cadet Masters tournament.

The event is being replaced by a Top 10 tournament next season, but for this season 12 boys and 12 girls will battle for the top honours.

The tournament is played on a round-robin basis, with each player meeting every other player in the draw once.

Both Cadet National Singles champions head their respective fields, with Alex Ramsden and Denise Payet seeded top.

But neither should expect to have things all their own way, with a strong line-up on both sides of the draw.

Ramsden will face up against Harry Dai, whom he beat in the final of the Nationals in Preston, while Joe Clark, who partnered Dai to the Doubles title in Preston, is ranked fourth.

At No 3 is James Smith, fresh from representing England at the Czech Youth Open, and there are plenty of other players capable of troubling the top seeds.

In the girls’ event, Payet will be tested by her doubles partner Kate Cheer and by Sophie Barlow, who took Payet to five sets in both the Cadet Nationals final and last season’s Under-13 final. Again, with 12 of the top 13 in the rankings present, there could be some eye-catching results.

The action gets under way at 11.30 on Saturday, with the final rounds scheduled for 2.30pm on Sunday.
