Sycamore ended the first weekend of Premier British League on top of the table following their 6-2, final round victory over London Academy. David McBeath and Viktor Gorman were at the double as they condemned London Academy to a disappointing weekend, registering just one draw and three defeats throughout. David McBeath put Sycamore in the ascendency with victory over Dexter St Louis before Chris Doran defeated Ryota Kawai. 2-0 soon became 4-0 as Gorman and Petko Gabrovski beat Steve Beerling and Omar Khassal respectively, before an impressive day for St Louis culminated in a fantastic victory over Doran in the fifth. Sycamore recovered with McBeath beating Beerling to secure the match, Kawai defeated Gabrovski by forefit, Gorman added emphasis to the result with victory over Khassal, and as a result ensured that he would end the weekend as the only unbeaten player. Sycamore leapfrogged Drumchapel in the table after they drew 4-4 with Ormesby. It was a case of what could have been for Drumchapel, who remarkably took a 3-0 lead over Ormesby before two wins from young hotshot Tom Jarvis salvaged a point for Ormesby. Xiaoxun Wu showed how capable he is as he became the first person to defeat Gavin Evans over the weekend, claiming the match in five. A splendid victory for Craig Howieson over Darius Knight doubled Drumchapel’s lead, and when Hongsheng Wang defeated Danny Lawrence, they were in dreamland. However Ormesby proved why they are champions. A gritty comeback started with Jarvis emphatically dispatching of Chris Wheeler before Knight defeated Wu and Evans beat Wang in the fifth to tie the match. The comeback was complete when Jarvis put on another outstanding display, beating Craig Howieson 3-0, winning two ends 11-2. But Wheeler held his nerve and recovered from his earlier defeat to overcome Lawrence in straight ends and secure a point for Drumchapel. Fusion ended the weekend with two victories as they defeated Cardiff City 7-1. Despite Wiktor Dzwonkowski defeating Emran Hussain, Cardiff couldn’t gain a set thereafter, with Michael O’Driscoll, Lorestas Trumpauskas and David Okoh winning two apiece. It was a frustrating result for Cardiff, having lost three of the four matches that went to the fifth set. David Okoh twice came through in five, defeating Simon Noutch and Dan O’Connell, whilst Lorestas Trumpauskas valiantly defeated Craig Bryant in a decider. Home team BATTS secured back-to-back wins as they defeated Kingfisher 6-2. With the support of legendary snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan, who was a keen spectator at the event, Tobias Bergman and talented youngster Ethan Walsh registered two wins each, with Michael Tauber and Jack Bennett chipping in with one win apiece. Kingfisher took plenty of hope from the performance of Marcus Giles, who played superbly to win his two matches; first defeating world number 370 Michael Tauber and then Jack Bennett, making the score line respectable. However the match belonged to Ethan Walsh, who became the youngest player for several years to participate in Britain’s elite division. Yet it didn’t overawe him, as he defeated Joshua Gallen and Hari Gehlot to end BATTS’ weekend on a high.

Ormesby and Sycamore renewed their rivalry as they played out an incredible 4-4 draw at BATTS. The match went on far longer than the allocated time, eventually finishing after over four hours of play. Gavin Evans stole the show once again as he defeated Chris Doran and Petko Gabrovski to give Ormesby a chance of victory. However, Sycamore’s Viktor Gorman cancelled out Evans’ two wins with a double himself, with the match eventually ending with nothing separating the sides. David McBeath gave Sycamore an ideal start as he overcame Darius Knight 3-1. However, the game was soon level as Evans brought his fine form from Saturday into this match as he condemned Chris Doran to his first defeat of the season in a 3-0 scoreline. Sycamore’s response was emphatic as they took the next two sets, with Viktor Gorman impressively defeating Tom Jarvis whilst Petko Gabrovski defeated Danny Lawrence. However the momentum turned drastically in the next set as Doran and Knight locked horns. Leading 2-0, Doran looked set to put Sycamore into a commanding 4-1 lead, however, Knight hit back, performing admirably to take the match deuce in the fifth and give his team a massive lift. Knight’s win clearly made an impact as Ormesby went onto win the next two sets. Jarvis, who continues to impress more and more as every match goes by, played unbelievably well to defeat McBeath 3-1 to level the match. Then Evans produced again, coming from two games down to defeat Gabrovski and put his side on the verge of victory. Thankfully for Sycamore, Gorman held his nerve, defeating Lawrence to end the match in stalemate. That draw allowed Drumchapel to move to the top of the league following their 6-2 victory over Fusion. A third consecutive victory for the Scottish based side was particularly impressive and gives them a massive boost going into their afternoon match with Ormesby. Doubles for Xiaoxun Wu, Craig Howieson and Calum Main gave them the spoils, with Wu particularly impressing with victories over Lorestas Trumpauskas and Michael O’Driscoll. Despite great wins for David Okoh and Trumpauskas over Wongsheng Wang, Fusion couldn’t crack Drumchapel’s other three players, with O’Driscoll taking one game each against Howieson and Wu. Cardiff City picked up their first win in the top flight following a 7-1 win over Kingfisher. Gradual improvement over the weekend culminated in a superb result for the Welsh outfit, with victory moving them to fourth in the table. Although Marcus Giles picked up a good victory over Paddy Thomas for Kingfisher, they couldn’t quite get over the line in any of the other sets, with Federico Viterbo and Maria Tsaptsinos both losing in five to Simon Noutch. Despite defeat, there was significant improvement from Kingfisher’s quartet, who were perhaps unlucky to lose by such a margin, with only two games ending 3-0. However, Craig Bryant impressed as he recovered from a set down to beat Giles and cruised past Viterbo to signify a good morning for Cardiff. BATTS also picked up their first win of the season following a morale-boosting victory over London Academy. Despite a superb double from London Academy’s Dexter St Louis, who beat Michael Tauber and Tobias Bergman, they couldn’t build on the platform St Louis had constructed, with Adam Nutland playing exceptionally well to defeat Ryota Kawai, whilst Jack Bennett produced a brilliant display to beat Matt Ware, who also lost to Bergman. END OF ROUND 2 REPORT The opening day of Premier British League ended with three teams all securing back-to-back victories. Following an 8-0 disposal of Cardiff in the morning, Sycamore continued their impressive start to the season with a 7-1 victory over BATTS. Chris Doran was the star performer again as he maintained his unbeaten start to the season, whilst Petko Gabrovski and Viktor Gorman also won two matches. Doran put last year’s runners-up in the lead with a 3-1 victory over Tobias Bergman, but that lead soon vanished as Michael Tauber impressively defeated David McBeath by the same scoreline. However, Sycamore responded to that minor setback superbly, claiming the next six sets, with Doran and Gabrovski especially impressing with victories over Tauber and Bergman respectively, with the margin of victory leaving Sycamore on top of the table after the first day. Defending champions Ormesby also kept their unbeaten star intact with a 6-2 win over Fusion. Two defeats for Darius Knight proved insignificant, as Gavin Evans, Tom Jarvis and Danny Lawrence all replied with two wins apiece to secure victory. For Evans in particular his brace ended an impressive day, not dropping a single end throughout his four matches and adding Michael O’Driscoll to his list of wins after beating Michael Tauber and Adam Nutland in the morning. Ormesby were left stunned as Lorestas Trumpauskas picked up another victory over Knight, having defeated the England international last season. However, Evans levelled the match with victory over Michael O’Driscoll, before wins for Jarvis and Lawrence over Alex Forshaw and David Okoh put Ormesby in the ascendency. Fusion threatened a comeback as O’Driscoll impressively defeated Knight, but any glimmer of hope Fusion had was extinguished as Jarvis defeated Trumpauskas 3-1, before Evans and Lawrence secured victory. Drumchapel went about their business quietly on day one, but ended it with two victories after cruising past Kingfisher 8-0. In an utterly dominant display, Drumchapel surrendered just a solitary game, with Hari Gehlot losing to Chris Wheeler 3-1. However Kingfisher couldn’t offer any more resistance after that, losing heavily to the Scottish based side, with new signings Xiaoxun Wu and Hongsheng Wang continuing to impress. London Academy and Cardiff City TTC both picked up their first point of the season as they played out a 4-4 draw. A topsy-turvy contest saw the lead change hands four times before Dan O’Connell rescued a point for Cardiff with victory over Omar Khassal in the final set of the match. Doubles for London’s duo of Ryota Kawai and Matt Ware had put them on course for victory. But Cardiff’s quartet picked up a win each, with Wiktor Dzwonkowski and Craig Bryant both impressively defeating Dexter St Louis whilst O’Connell and Simon Noutch both overcame Khassal. END OF ROUND 1 REPORT Ormesby started their defence of the British League title with a tough 6-2 victory over promoted BATTS. With home advantage, BATTS made life difficult for the reigning champions as a healthy contingent of followers watched the game with interest. However, two wins apiece from last year’s player of the season Tom Jarvis and Ormesby debutant Gavin Evans secured a crucial opening round victory for the champions. The home crowd was silenced from the start as Evans produced a magnificent performance to defeat BATTS’ new signing and world number 370 Michael Tauber in straight sets, before Darius Knight doubled Ormesby’s lead with a 3-0 win over Swede Tobias Bergman. It was down to home favourite Adam Nutland to get BATTS up and running as he produced an impressive display to overcome Danny Lawrence 3-1. The sides exchanged the next two sets as Jarvis defeated Jack Bennet whilst Tauber performed admirably to defeat Knight. However BATTS could never quite draw level, with Evans once again producing the goods for Ormbesy as he defeated Nutland 3-0. Ormesby made no mistake as they saw out the match from there, with Jarvis claiming an outstanding victory over Bergman before Lawrence secured a solid victory. Last year’s runners-up Sycamore ended the first round on top of the table following a dominant 8-0 win over Cardiff. David McBeath, Victor Gorman and Petko Gabrovski all impressed on debut, whilst British League star Chris Doran also played well in his two victories. In what was a dominant performance, Sycamore dropped just three games; Simon Nouch taking one end of David McBeath whilst Wiktor Dzwonkowski pushed Gabrovski to the fifth set. Drumchapel Glasgow produced a stunning comeback as they defeated London Academy 6-2. Trailing two sets to nil, Drumchapel claimed the next six sets, with Chinese debutant Hongsheng Wang instigating the revival with two wins. Victories for Ryota Kawai and Dexter St Louis over Xiaoxun Wu and Craig Howieson respectively put London Academy in control. However, victory for Wang over Steve Beerling, followed by a tremendous result for Calum Main, defeating Matt Ware 3-1, put the teams level. From there, Drumchapel dominated. Wu put Drumchapel ahead with victory over St Louis before Wang impressively defeated Kawai to put them on the verge of victory. London’s fate was sealed as Howieson dispatched of Ware, before Main added gloss to the scoreline with a win over Beerling. Finally, Fusion got off to a solid start with a 7-1 win over Kingfisher. Michael O’Drsicoll, Lorestas Trumpauskas and David Okoh all registered two wins each, whilst Alex Forshaw added another set to the score. O’Driscoll and Trumpauskas gave Fusion a 2-0 lead with wins over Marcus Giles and Federico Viterbo before Okoh made it 3-0 with victory over Joshua Gallen. Hari Gehlot pulled one back for Kingfisher with victory over Forshaw, but Fusion recovered to take the next four sets and take the match.
