Paul and Marsha Simpson with their awards

Deighton TTC are celebrating winning two top honours at the Disability Sport Yorkshire Awards ceremony.

The club’s lead coach Paul Simpson was named Coach of the Year, while Marsha Simpson won the Volunteer of the Year award.

It continues a memorable year for the club – Paul previously received the West Yorkshire Shining Light Community Games Award and reached the last six nationally.

Meanwhile, the club’s summer activities, organised by Paul and delivered by two of his coaching colleagues, Godfrey and Naila Malik, saw the numbers at coaching sessions double.

The club is working with the local council at several youth clubs, teaching table tennis to able-bodied youngsters, wheelchair users and others with learning disabilities and hearing impairment.

It was this work which led to recognition from the Disability Sport Yorkshire Awards for Paul and Marsha – who has a learning disability and helps delivery in the Deighton club and at other groups as part of the club’s sport inclusion programme.
