Liz Wilson passed away on October 29, 2015 after a long battle against cancer.

Liz was one of our top umpires in the 1980s and 1990s. She gained her County Umpires badge in 1981 and then went on to become a National Umpire in 1986 and an International Umpire in 1988.

As well as being active as an umpire in England, including officiating at several National Championships, Liz also umpired abroad. Her list of tournaments includes umpiring at the European Youth Championships in 1989 in Germany, the Commonwealth Championships in 1991 in Kenya and the World Championships in Sweden in 1993. However, the pinnacle must surely have been her selection to officiate at the Olympic Games in 1996 in Atlanta.

Ill health curtailed Liz’s umpiring activities but she was kept up to date with what was happening in English table tennis through the 100 Club, of which she was a member for several years. It was a pleasure to see her at the annual dinner in 2014 and her company was enjoyed by all present.

“Liz will always be remembered for her smile and fantastic sense of humour,” said Doreen Stannard, President TTE and 100 Club Secretary.

Funeral arrangements will be advised.
