The first day of the Under 11/12/13/14 National Championships in Doncaster went very much to the seedings in the Under 14 and Under 13 events.

In the Under 14 Boys, No 1 Seed Igor Morais from Middlesex took the trophy beating No 2 seed Helshan Weerasinghe of Sussex.

In the Under 14 Girls No 1 seed Tin-Tin Ho also from Middlesex was too strong for No 3 seed Emma Torkington from Sussex. It looks odds on for another treble championship for Tin-Tin Ho: having taken the Under 14 Girls crown she proceeded to take the Under 13 Girls too with a victory over once again the No 3 seed, Ella Patel of Essex. Having taken both her over age events who would bet against her taking her own age group today.

The Under 13 Boys was another No 1 seed win, Helshan Weerasinghe of Sussex defeating No 2 seed Sam Mabey from Northamptonshire to take the trophy.

Only the Under 14 Doubles produced a victory for other than the No 1 seeds, Jared Patel and Alex Holland of Essex who had that honour were defeated in the final by No 2 seeds Sam Mabey and Miles Chan from Northamptonshire. No such upsets in the Under 14 Girls Doubles: Tin-Tin Ho took her third trophy of the day partnering Emma Torkington in a defeat of Chrissie Slot and Maria Tsaptsinos.

Today will see the younger contestants showing their prowess as we move to the two youngest age groups, Under 11 and Under 12.

Finally an apology, the virtually real time results service planned has not been possible due to connectivity issues at the venue. The Sunday results will be available late this evening.
