Tom Jarvis was knocked out of the European Under-21 Championships in Minsk at the second group stage, following defeat to the top seed Tomas Polansky.
Jarvis, who was ranked second in the group, was beaten by Russia’s Artur Abusev, ranked third, in his first match. It meant he needed to beat Polansky – as he had at the same event last year – to retain a chance of qualifying for the last 16.
But although he fought hard from 2-0 down to level the match, his Czech opponent took the next two. With Abusev and Polansky having won both their matches, it meant Jarvis could not qualify, though he ended on a high by defeating Austria’s Thomas Grininger in his final tie.
