Table Tennis England is today launching its new individual membership structure for the 2020/21 season.

The new membership categories are designed to be more relevant both to current and potential new members and to diversify the benefits of joining Table Tennis England.

The main changes are:

  • Re-branding the current Player Member and Player Licence – these will now be known as ‘Compete’ and ‘Compete Plus’.
  • Removing the Associate category and creating a ‘Supporter’ category, which is aimed at those who don’t play but still want to be part of Table Tennis England.
  • The introduction of a ‘Club Play’ category, which will ensure those who are playing in a club setting or regularly elsewhere can purchase a membership that will help them develop as a player and get access to insurance to ensure they’re properly protected. It will not cover playing in leagues or national competitions.

Each of the categories has a raft of benefits tailored for those who join, ensuring that membership of Table Tennis England remains excellent value for money.

Table Tennis England Chief Executive Sara Sutcliffe said: “With the nation still in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, we are working hard with the authorities to plan a safe return to the sport, whether that is in a club and league setting or a less formal, social setting.

“It is therefore important that we continue with our plans and preparations for the 2020/21 season so that we are in the best possible position to restart play when the restrictions are lifted.

“We believe our new membership categories make joining Table Tennis England more relevant to more people in all areas of the sport.

“We are excited by the potential to develop our membership packages and benefits still further over the coming years as we seek to offer greater value for our members.

“But more than that, by becoming a member of Table Tennis England you become part of the fabric of the sport, helping us to unlock other funds so we can spend more on the grassroots and safeguard the future of the sport.”

We have already announced that fees for the 2020/21 season will be frozen at the same rates as 2019/20.

It means the price of a Compete Membership (formerly Player Member) will be £16 for adults and £8 for under-18s, while the Compete Plus category (formerly Player Licence) will remain at £38 for adults and £19 for juniors and cadets. The Club Play category will be free for the 2020/21 season, transitioning to paid membership from 2021/22 onwards.

The average adult player membership for 2020/21 will cost less than 31p a week. While these may seem like small figures, these affiliation fees help fund an incredible amount of important work at grassroots level.
