Sanford Table Tennis Club are blazing a trail with a new league open to all ages and abilities.
The club has received Be TT funding for the 20-week league at Swindon Academy, which starts on Friday August 24. The Academy is a Satellite Club of Sanford TTC.
The Super League format will see players split into at least four divisions on the night, based on ability, with promotion and relegation a feature every week.
It has been launched following a successful pilot last season, which attracted several brand new players, both male and female, as well as more experienced players.
Sanford TTC Development Officer Lee Bowen, who is behind the idea, said: “Something like this is very much needed in Swindon. We found the pilot very successful and after the 20 weeks, I anticipate this league will continue.
“The beauty of this league is it will be finished by 9.30pm, which helps the youngsters who come along to get home early.
“We should have an age range of about nine up to 75 or thereabouts. The players will be assessed and put into a division – promotion and relegation every week is a good incentive and over the course of the league, players will find their right division.”
At the end of the 20-week league, an awards presentation and social evening will be held.
Anyone interested in entering the league can contact Lee Bowen on 07767 029518, email [email protected] or visit the club’s website.
