Premier League 4 Sport Table Tennis at Stoke City

Table tennis is back on your tv in January as part of Match of the Day’s community Feature on January 23rd (moved form the 2nd).

Some talented young players from one of our table tennis satellite clubs were given the once in a lifetime opportunity to take on the best table tennis talent that Stoke City’s first team had to offer at our new training ground on 7th December.

Josh Birks, Lucie Hancock and Ella Grantham, all aged 11 took part in our first ‘Play the Player’ competition and demonstrated their exceptional talent to first team representatives, Glenn Whelan and Marc Wilson. The players competed in singles and doubles with Stoke City’s players not taking too many points!

Gavin Evans, former number 1 ranked Cadet in Europe and Team GB hopeful for London 2012, was also in attendance to showcase his skills and share some coaching tips and experience with our young players.

Table tennis is starting to infiltrate our first team ranks at Stoke City with a table in permanent residence at our new training ground, the top of which is signed by every player who has used it so far.

Match of the Day’s community feature team were on hand to record all the action and highlight the Premier League 4 Sport project and its success so far at Stoke City, which will be shown on MOTD in early January.

Our young players, whilst being interviewed for MOTD, gave a fantastic account of how PL4S has enabled them to take part in a sport that they might not have had the option to try and all said how much they want to progress and represent team GB in the Olympics one day.
