A superb display by No 2 seed Maria Tsaptsinos inflicted the only defeat at these championships in the last several years on the Number 1 seed Tin Tin Ho in the final of the Under 14 Girls. Maria’s two winged attack was just too strong for Tin Tin and only the third game went the way of Tin Tin in a 3-1 defeat.
In the other three events the Number 1 seed triumphed, Tin Tin winning in three straight games in the Under 13 Girls final over Number 2 seed Emily Bolton of Cumbria. Helshan Weerasinghe inflicted a similar 3-1 defeat over No 2 seed Sam Mabey in the Under 14 Boys final and Marcus Giles took the Under 13 Boys Title with a straight three game victory over the number 3 seeded finalist Tom Jarvis of Lincolnshire.
The Doubles also went the way of the number one seeds, Tin Tin Ho and Emily Bolton took the Under 14 Girls Doubles while Helshan Weerasinghe and Sam Mabey took the Under 14 Boys Doubles Championship.
A super days play was on show from all the young contestants and tomorrow some even youger ones will be fighting out the Under 11 and Under 12 Championships – these players will be the stars of the future and if you are close to Doncaster tomorrow the play will begin at 9 am at the Dome and will be well worth looking at.
