Our sport couldn’t run without the army of officials who help to make events happen – and we are looking to honour these unsung heroes.

The Pride of Table Tennis Awards has a category especially for them – Technical Official of the Year.

This award recognises the important work carried out by technical officials over the past 12 months and nominations are invited for umpires, referees and tournament organisers who have made an important contribution, either on the field of play or in support of the officiating pathway.

The winner last time was Jim Kenny. Jim was nominated for his outstanding level of dedication to table tennis – spending most weekends assisting at events all over the country.

He acts as a Tournament Organiser (TO4) for a number of Table Tennis England events, including being the lead organiser for Women’s British League and also assisting with the Junior British League and Veterans’ British League, and referees and umpires for a multitude of clubs and leagues up and down the country.

His expertise as a Field of Play Manager is invaluable to the Competitions and Events department.

After the presentation ceremony at the National conference, Jim said: “I’m honoured to get this award. Without the other people I work with, it wouldn’t be the same. We need more volunteers to come forward, especially at National events. You get to see the elite athletes close up.”

Do you know an inspirational Technical Official who is worthy of a Pride of Table Tennis award? If so, now is the time to nominate them!

Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 2nd October 2020
