The ninth Bishop Auckland Bribar 2 star took place on April 17 at Bishop Barrington School, the Home of Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club.

The first event to complete was the U11 Girls, where Cleveland’s Lucy Gent overcame Anya Milne from Bishop Auckland.

The Under-11 Boys’ title was won by Sam Lowe from Yorkshire with Bishop Auckland pair Luke Mitchell and Joe Sparke finishing in second and third place. Lowe also took home the U13 plate title later to round off a nice day for the young man from Scarborough.

The Cadet Boys’ event went to plan until the quarter-finals, where seventh seed James Neal took out third seed Rhys Davies. Top seed Kieran Wardell won his semi-final over Bishop Auckland’s Peter Smallcombe who had beaten his club-mate Max Duffin in the quarter-finals.

The final was an Ormesby affair with Kieran taking on second seed Tom Rayner. The final was a tight match with neither player able to establish a clear lead before Tom came out winner 12-10 in the fifth set. The plate event was taken home by Callum McRae, beating his Durham team-mate Luke Robinson in the final.

Just like the Cadet Boys, the Cadet Girls’ singles went to seeding, with the top two seeds reaching the final. This time Rana Raseem came out winner over Katie Peacock. Karenza Baker made her trip from the Isle of Man, taking home the Cadet Girls’ plate title, beating Cleveland’s Eve Witterick in the final.

The plate event saw Kieran’s club-mate Callum Mcmenamin win the title, beating Carl Draper who has just returned to the sport after 12 months out.

Kelsey Bradley was the winner in the Junior Girls’ singles, beating Jessica Dunn in her semi-final and Katie Peacock in the final, who had knocked out Erin Greensmith in her semi-final. Northfield’s Amy Webster came out on top in the Junior Girls’ plate final, beating Katie Wray in five ends.
