The 2014/15 Leicestershire season has been completed with the final of the County Association’s Rose Johnson Challenge Bowl, a four-a-side handicap tournament where how many games are won or lost is immaterial as it is a case of “every point counts” as players play one 21-up game against each of the opposition.

It was an all-Knighton Park affair with the emerging talent of the four juniors who gained promotion from Division Five of the Leicester League as the fifth team against their club-mates under the guise of the second team with one of the players (yours truly) giving around 60 years to each player as well as points as the youngsters began the match 76 points to the good.

After one round of games the juniors had gained two points which was increased to an advantage of 89 with six games gone. The second team pegged 20 points back over the next three games but, having needed to win pretty well every game, they managed only nine in the end, losing 347-294 to a foursome playing some super table tennis.

Dan Pearson led the way again as he did the round before and actually finished with his nose above the parapet at 74-73, but the other three, Max Huggins, Oscar White and Adam Green, also contributed in depth with none of them more than a handful of points down. For the seconds, Nikki Farrall finished plus 26 and John Bowness plus 35.
