LEICESTERSHIRE SCHOOLS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

The finals of the LSTTA School Team Championships were held on Saturday 17 November at Leicester Grammar School. With 41 teams of four players each entering and 33 playing, this was the largest ever entry.

There were eight events originally but regrettably in the end there were no girl’s events in two of the four age groups. This was also the final of the Leicestershire and Rutland Sport School Games Super Series for table tennis, which covered under 11 and under 13 events for boys and girls.

The pyramid events in the districts attracted about 30 more teams so in all over 70 teams and over 250 players participated. Thanks go to all who played and helped in any way

Particularly pleasing was the six-team event at under 11s – five boys teams and one girls – definitely the highest ever. There were two especially close 5-3 finals with South Wigston defeating Bushloe in the under 11s boys and South Wigston 1s beating Leicester Grammar School in the under 13 boys.

Good luck to those champions going to represent Leicestershire at the next stage in these national championships at Grantham on Jan 20. Maybe one team will make the National finals like last year when Guthlaxton under 16s (Adam Cross, Adil Rashid, Eddie Lyons and Ollie Dovey) came third.

On to the individual championships on Feb 2/3 – forms out in early January to schools/colleges
