Abbots All Stars are taking Group A of the Leicester & District League summer competition for the Elbow Tankard by storm, clocking up their third win from three matches when beating Jurassic Park, their nearest rivals, 14-6.

At least equally impressive was the fact that the match was played at the same time England faced Colombia in the World Cup.

Geoff Hancock was in impressive form leading from the front with all six while Vishal Parmar notched five. Eddie Kwok was Jurassic’s most successful player with 3 from 6. It was a clash of hitherto undefeated teams.

Previously Jurassic Park had beaten Fleckney Flyers 15-5 thanks to five from Alec Downes, Paul Ducksbury four and Mike Smith 3 from 4.

In the same group Knighton The Town recorded their first victory, a nail biting 11-9 over Fleckney Flyers with Chris Parmar-Saville grabbing 4 from 6, Simon Aldis two from his four but an impressive full house of four in the doubles to shade victory.

Just one result from Group B, a close encounter between Ian’s Wizards and Abbots Renegades, the latter inching home 11-9 with Bhulesh Rathod four, Fahed Sacoor three while Ketan Patel helped with three out of four in the doubles. Four each for Dan Andrews and Himansu Mishra could not quite swing it.

In Group C Electric City scored an excellent 14-6 success over Casualties when Andy Wright emerged undefeated, while Graham Piggin picked up two as well as being unbeaten in the doubles. Ian Wetherly scored four from six for Casualties.

The other result saw Park and Ride home 18-2 against Villagers with John Bowness six, James Lancaster five and Shirley Pickering all four singles and three doubles.
