The young team of Knighton Park III scored critical victories in Division Two of the Leicester & District League when they beat both their nearest two rivals 6-4, those two for the time being now battling out second place.

Against Desford Village II, none of the KP team could find a way around Kevin Parker who scored a very good maximum, in the end in vain, Matthew Briggs supporting with one while losing both his other two in five games. For the Park, Brajesh Patel and Oscar Bentley won two and Patrick Cox one, the first two taking the all-important doubles in five games.

Against Regent Sports, Cox scored a maximum for KP with Bentley taking two while Vishaal Sharda came in for Patel as they rotate four players, to win one, all three of his sets needing a fifth game. For Regent Kevin Sanderson, Charlie Bateman and Richard Anderson playing up all secured one. This puts KP nine points clear at the top.

The individual tussle at the top of the averages is a terrific fight with three on 77.8% and three at 76.2%. The trio at the top are all juniors, in fact one, Oscar Bentley, is a cadet while Dan Andrews and Brajesh Patel are the other two. On the slightly lower mark and equal fourth are Rhys Emery (Arnesby), Kevin Parker (Desford II) and Malcolm Truman (Desford I).

Regent came back with a bang in their next match, beating Arnesby 7-3 when Kevin Sanderson maintained good recent form with three, Martin Bolton two and Charlie Bateman one.

One of the top three in the averages, Dan Andrews, secured an excellent maximum for Winstanley Wizards against Great Glen in a 6-4 success, including the scalp of Alex Mason. Himansu Mishra supported with two and the two Wizards won the doubles for full points.

Holwell Sports might be the only team capable of stopping Unicorn scoring a one-two at the top of Division One, their latest victory coming at the expense of Electricity firsts when Mark Green maintained his unbeaten record with a maxi, Adam Feargrieve two and Martin Brunning one. For the Sparks, Matt Hobday won two and Chris Brewer one.

Unicorn’s second team collected another victory but very disappointingly gave their opponents a free point with the scores at 7-2 by giving away the doubles to make something of a mockery of those having to fight for that consolation point in a 7-3 defeat. Craig Witheford won three for Unicorn, Joe Kirkup and John Genovese two apiece.

Meanwhile Unicorn’s first team were beating Electricity II 8-2 thanks to three each from Garry Knights and Tim Sheppard with Geoff Parsons two. Marcin Kasprzyk, up from Three, won the only singles for the Sparks and it was good to see the doubles played and won by the latter.

Osman Bawa played up for Knighton Park II against Arnesby and won a very good brace, outshone in this case by Karen Smith who won all three while Richard Hayes took one in a 7-3 success for the Park.

Some good individual results in Division Three included a maximum for Dan Woolman in Electricity V’s 8-2 victory over Knighton Park VI to stand alongside three from Andy Wright while Bryan Moylan took one. Charlie Gilmour-Evans, playing up from Division Five, won one for KP.

A match winning maximum for Nicolas Iacovou saw Unicorn III home 6-4 against Syston Casuals III, having very good support from Tony Geanta who won two. Terry Hall collected two for Syston.

Holwell Sports II are still very much in charge at the top of the chart having scored a 10-0 victory over Nomads, who did themselves no favours in only having two players. Martin Brunning, Dave Roche and Mike James did the damage, the latter at the moment top of the averages taking the two-thirds rule of matches played into the calculation.

A rare result in Division Four when Nomads II defeated Regent Sports III 6-4 in that Chris Weston, Terry Wale and Steph Burley all won two for Nomads. In contrast Dave Dewsbury, Keith Bramhall and James Smith all won one for Regent, which meant the latter trio all beat someone different – and that so rarely actually happens.
