Keighley and District Table Tennis League is keen to recruit new players and new teams for its 2014/15 season.

Currently comprising four divisions with 10 teams in each, the league has experienced a growth spurt in recent years, largely due to the opening of Keighley Table Tennis and Recreation Centre (KTTC) in 2009. KTTC is one of the best table tennis facilities in the UK, offering adult playing opportunities every day of the week. Its coaches also run programmes in local schools.

Most of the league’s matches are played at KTTC, but teams hail from the neighbouring towns of Skipton, Bingley, Shipley and Ilkley as well as Keighley itself.

It is an open league, which means there are no separate divisions for juniors or women. Indeed, in this year’s final event, a handicap tournament known as the Jeff Naylor Cup, the two teams in the final were a ladies’ team (Haworth Hen Harriers) and a junior team (Haworth Hawks Juniors).

The age range of players in the league is from 11 to 84 and there is a similarly wide spread of abilities. Although competition is fierce, the league has a reputation for being friendly and welcoming. New teams can be of any standard, though complete beginners are advised to attend KTTC informally first.

Anybody wanting to join in next season would need to get a team together of 3-5 players and contact Rod Fotherby, League Secretary, at [email protected] or attend the League’s AGM, which will be held on July 11th 2014 at KTTC, where they can register.  Teams who send a member to the AGM will also get £10 off the annual team registration fee of £60. The final deadline for registering a team is August 8th 2014.

Keighley Table Tennis and Recreation Centre is at: 2nd Floor Keighley Business Centre, South Street, Keighley, BD21 1SY.
