Karina Le Fevre was the best English finisher at the Luxembourg Open, sealing 15th position out of 70 participants.

She lost her opening match to eventual champion Mariia Tailakova of Russia but a series of victories, including a 4-3 scoreline against fellow England international Maria Tsaptsinos (4-11, 14-12, 7-11, 12-10, 12-10, 8-11, 11-8) moved her up the leaderboard.

Narrow defeats to Valeriia Shcherbatykh of Russia and Alina Nikitchanka of Belarus meant she ended up in a play-off for 15th against France’s Oceane Guisnel, which she won 4-3 (1-11, 11-6, 14-16, 11-7, 6-11, 11-7, 11-8). It meant she finished above several players ranked higher than her in the world.

Tsaptsinos ended in 31st position, Hannah Hicks 45th, Lois Peake 47th and Emily Bolton 62nd. Along the way, there was a meeting between Hicks and Peake, which Hicks won 4-2 (11-8, 11-8, 13-15, 11-6, 7-11, 11-9).

In the men’s competition, Helshan Weerasinghe had to withdraw through injury after being edged out in his first match 4-3 by the host nation’s Dragos Olteanu (11-9, 7-11, 14-12, 7-11, 11-8, 9-11, 10-12).
