Bethany Ellis has completed her 100km challenge and raised well over £1,000 for Cancer Research UK – with support from boxing world champion Tyson Fury.

Bethany ran the distance in her home town of Morecambe across the space of a week, completing the challenge she set herself on her 13th birthday.

The youngster, who is working to get into the England Aspire Squad next season, her older brother Toby and younger brother Thomas, stopped by Fury’s house at the end of the challenge to pick up the £100 he had pledged to add to the fund.

The WBC heavyweight champion, who lives in the town, gave his support to Bethany after both ended up running in the same area of the Promenade on day one of the challenge. He also gave her a goodie bag of training equipment and some hydration drinks.

Bethany said: “I felt really relieved to have finished the challenge and proud and shocked that it has raised so much money. I thought I would be helping if I could have raised £100 and that not many people would know me to donate the money. It has been big shock so many people donated, even people I don’t know!

“It felt good going to Tyson Fury’s house at the end of the last run and exciting to see him again. He said I had done very well and gave me the £100 donation he had promised me if I was able to complete it. We took photos with him and my brothers too.”

Bethany said she was taking a day off from running and enjoying pizza for dinner as a treat, but would be back on her fitness work tomorrow.
