The Safir Swedish Open saw a large contingent of English players head into Scandinavia in two separate tournaments.
Emily Bates, Tressa Armitage and Maria Tsaptsinos played in the first ITTF competition with unlucky draws proving their downfall.
In her group, Armitage faced tough French seed Marie Migot while, after Bates had won through her qualifying group, she faced eventual winner Tamolwan Khetkuen in the first round.
When the pair joined forces in the girls’ doubles they met another of the top seeds Daria Chernova and Bernadette Szocs from Russia, who were the eventual semi-finalists.
The second tournament saw a large collection of college players from across the country compete with our best results coming in the girls’ under-18 event of the Yasaka GP.
Both Maria Tsaptsinos and Yolanda King made the last 16 of the tournament where they met each other.
It was King who came out on top 3-1 (11-4, 9-11, 11-7, 11-8) but credit to Tsaptsinos who is still a cadet player.
King eventually lost in the quarter-finals to Li Ching Wan (HKG) who is the world number 49 in under-18s. Wan also went on to win the tournament.
