Tom Jarvis has won his group at the European Under-21 Championships in Belarus to advance to the second stage.

Jarvis defeated opponents from Portugal, Belgium and Sweden for the total loss of only three games on day one of the competition in Minsk.

However, Helshan Weerasinghe and Luke Savill were unable to join Jarvis in advancing as they were beaten in their group matches – apart from Savill picking up a walkover victory.

All three English players were also involved in the doubles, Savill & Weerasinghe as a partnership and Jarvis teaming up with Sweden’s Simon Berglund.

Both pairs were eliminated in the first round – the last 32 – though Jarvis & Berglund had an extraordinary match against Hungary’s Csaba Andras & Istvan Molnar, in which they led 2-0 and fought out three close games in the middle of the match.
