The Tees Active Stockton-On-Tees 4 Star Junior Championships, which are being organised by the Cleveland Table Tennis Association, have received a bumper entry for the competition which is being played at Thornaby Pavilion this weekend.
In the Junior Boys’ Singles, all eight seeds are amongst the top 10 players in this country with Joseph Hee, originally from Singapore, as the top seed and Rhys Davies of Lancashire in second place. The third seed is Ormesby’s Thomas Rayner whilst Amirul Hussain is fourth. Also included amongst the seeds are Ben Piggott, Louis Price, David Gofton and Max Stevens.
The top seed for the Junior Girls’ Singles is Yorkshire’s Jasmin Wong, with Nottingham’s Erin Green in second place. Raquel Sao Pedro of Portugal is seeded third and will play Wong in the semi-finals, while Danielle Kelly will play Green if all players reach the semi-final stage.
The top seed for the Cadet Boys’ Singles is Ormesby’s Piggott, with Nottingham’s Connor Green in second place. Jakub Piwowar of Devon is seeded to meet Piggott, while Felix Thomis is in the same half as Green.
The top seed in the Cadet Girls is Sandy Choong, with Amy Marriott in second place. Choong is seeded to meet Anna Green while Marriott is seeded to play Megan Jones.
One of the features of the Tees Active Stockton-On-Tees 4 Star Junior Championship is the team events which are played on Saturday. In the Junior Boys’ event the Ormesby Team of Rayner and Piggott are the top seeds whilst the Peterborough Archway Team of Gofton and Price are second.
In the Junior Girls’ event, Ackworth School, who have Jasmin Wong and Ruby Chan, are the top seeds ahead of the Plymouth team of Gemma Kerr and Marriott.
The Tees Active Stockton-On-Tees 4 Star Championship have not just received an excellent entry in terms of the playing standard but also in numbers where for the first time several entries could not be accepted due to the draw being full. In fact, the organisers have had to increase the number of tables in Thornaby Pavilion from 14 to 16 to facilitate the extra entries.
