Grantham College Table Tennis Academy is currently recruiting players for September 2015 and beyond.
The academy offers the chances for players to train up to 20 hours per week alongside studying a wide variety of courses including A level, Btec, Apprenticeships and HE courses. It also provides on-site self-catering residential accommodation which is fully staffed seven days a week for the welfare of the students.
This accommodation was inspected by OFSTED in March 2015 and was graded as Good with particular reference to the very high quality support offered to the residents by the accommodation staff.
The academy is run by head coach Matjaz Sercer (former Italian and Slovenian coach) and Natalie Green (former England No 1 Junior and East Midlands regional coach). As well as this, it offers a range of high quality international sparring partners.
Players attending from September 2015 will also be able to access sport psychology sessions and fitness programmes to meet their individual needs.
Former player and student Yolanda King was here for two years and represented England at the Junior European Youths whilst studying for her A Levels. She said: “My time at Grantham College Table Tennis academy gave me the opportunity to excel in table tennis alongside my education.
“The college provides an extensive training schedule in good conditions with a variety of practice partners. The onsite accommodation was perfect for college classes, training and building friendships with peers. Studying A Levels was a big jump from GCSEs in terms of workload and difficulty, however the teaching staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
“I found college different to school as there is less pressure from the lecturers but help is readily available and success is possible with focus and ambition.”
Yolanda went on to achieve three A levels and got into her first choice university, the University of Nottingham.
The Table Tennis Academy also has links with the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University for players wishing to go to university after their time here.
