Chris Doran and Karina Le Fevre (pictured) begin the defence of their Grand Prix crowns in Liverpool next weekend.

The two champions will not expect to have things all their own way, with strong fields up against them.

This is particularly so in the men’s event, where Doran is seeded third, behind Ryan Jenkins and Gavin Rumgay.

Rumgay leads a strong Scottish contingent, with Craig Howieson and Sean Doherty also competing, while there is a big Irish presence in the top 10, led by Paul McCreery.

Also in the field is Peter Cleminson, the former Under-18 England No 1, who played his first Grand Prix in 12 years at Redbridge in May, where he beat Doran 3-2 in an epic encounter.

The women’s event is missing some regular names, including last year’s Liverpool winner Abbie Milwain. Le Fevre is seeded second, behind Charlotte Carey of Wales. Scotland’s Gillian Edwards, and Megan Phillips of Wales complete the top four seeds.

As ever, the banded events take place on the Saturday (August 22), with the men’s and women’s singles the highlights of the Sunday, August 23.
