The 2011 annual table tennis competition organised by the Association of English Table Tennis Umpires was held at the Scunthorpe Table Tennis Club on the weekend of 23-24th July 2011.

This was the fourth AETTU competition and this year the number of umpires taking part increased to 26 and the standard of play from the participants is reaching ever higher standards.  Ray Jackson, from Lancashire, was defending his title as holder of the Ken Armson Trophy from 2010.  He was seriously tested by Dave Griffiths, a new member from Lancashire, who beat him in the final of the Over 40s competition but lost to Ray in an exiting final of the Ken Armson Open competition.

The Scunthorpe TTC was a very good venue with good parking, catering, playing and rest areas.  A number of existing members entered the competition for the first time.  This increased the standard of play and competition with Dave Griffiths, Mark Kinlocke, Cliff Bell, Malcolm Makarian and Alan Duke reaching the finals.

The players and guests were all looked after by partners and all the players have expressed their thanks to Joyce, Margaret, Barbara and Judy who prepared the refreshments.

The AETTU competition is growing from strength to strength.  We will soon start planning for the 2012 competition so if you are aware of a suitable venue please let me know.
