Elmtree /Excalibur B were the week’s big winners in division two in the second week of the Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League. Tony Hallett and Steve Cheeman combined to beat OCs A 5-0. Tony Hallett’s hard-fought opening match win over Frank Hodge in five games (11-5, 9-11, 4-11, 11-8, 11-7) set his side on their way and they never looked back after that. Elmtree added three more points to their tally by beating Chelmsford A 3-2. Robert Shrimpton was responsible for both of Chelmsford’s wins. He beat John Marshall quite comfortably 11-7, 11-6, 11-4 and he just prevailed 11-8, 11-8, 7-11, 7-11, 11-9 after a very hard-fought game against Steve Cheesman. Danbury A were clearcut 4-1 winners against ECC. Lee McHugh stayed undefeated whilst Richard Storey was on target for ECC. He beat Graham Briggs in five ends (10-12, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8).

In the first division Chris Buer was on fine form as Ramsden Renegades beat Ramsden Raiders 3-2. Steve Buer won once, beating Dave Carter in five hard fought games 12-10, 7-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-6.

There doesn’t seem to be too much to choose between the sides in division four. Three scorecards have been received this week and each time the scoreline was 3-2. OCs E had an undefeated Tom Barker to thank as they beat both Chelmsford C and Elmtree / Excalibur D 3-2 whilst OCs D will consider themselves fortunate to have got the verdict against South Woodham Ferrers B. Woodham’s Emma Dadswell came away with nothing to show for her efforts after going down tantalisingly 11-6, 13-15, 4-11, 11-9, 10-12 to Charlie Mariner and 6-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-6, 10-12 to Daniel Berry.
