Top Class Table Tennis Coming to Westfield

The finals of the English Leagues Cup Competition take place this weekend, 16th and 17th June, at Westfield Table Tennis Club, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. The competition is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the ETTA calendar. The origins of the competition go back to 1935 when Manchester won the Wilmott Cup (Senior Men). Exeter League were the first winners of the JM Rose Bowl (Senior Women) in 1939.

Saturday sees eight teams from all corners of England challenge for the Senior trophies.  Teams will be travelling from Hastings and Hull, Birmingham and Chester. Bournemouth League is the number one seed in the Ladies event with England International, Hannah Hicks, hoping to help win the trophy for a second time, along with team mates Sanja Clements and Hannah McErlane. Sheffield holds the top spot in the Men’s event with Matt Dodds and Shaun Marples being their strongest two players.

Sunday sees the juniors compete for their two trophies, the Carter Cup and Bromfield Trophy.  Bournemouth and North Middlesex being the number one seeded teams respectively. Top class juniors will be representing their leagues and there will be some very entertaining and competitive matches.

Play commences 10am both days with an expected finish time of 7pm. Spectators are welcome at any time during either day. There is no entry charge.
