Drumchapel Glasgow I recorded their fourteenth win of the Season, beating BATTS Team Peniel 5-3, and they allowed themselves the luxury of fielding a second reserve for the first time this weekend. Andrew McFadyen took the number four spot, and he came desperately close to beating Martin Kubrt (before succumbing 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 11-13, 8-11). However, this exercise served another  purpose. Craig Hardie was promoted to the number three position, and he played superbly, beating Clive Carthy (9-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-7) and Ritchie
Venner (11-6, 11-3, 11-4). Ryan Jenkins again won his two singles, his game against Wang Zheng being a really hard fought affair. Wang always rouses himself when he plays Ryan, and this clash was no exception. Ryan surged into a 2-0 lead, and found himself pegged back to 2-2 but he clinched it in the fifth end : 11-7, 11-2, 8-11, 8-11, 11-8.

DHS Greenhouse Progress I edged out Sycamore 5-3, and a battling Gavin Rumgay avenged his sole defeat of the Season, getting the better of Chen Po Huang 11-6, 11-7, 4-11, 11-9. Rumgay also got the better of Colum Slevin 11-7, 11-7, 8-11 11-6.   DHS Greenhouse Progress, distant runners-up with 19 points look the team most likely to challenge Drumchapel Glasgow next year and they were determined to finish the Season on a high.  “Man of the moment” Da Quin Tong who had beaten Terry Young in the morning finished his Season with a flourish. He beat Danny Lowe 11-8, 11-6, 11-5 and Stewart Crawford 11-8, 12-10, 12-10.

Westfield finished third, with 18 points, hammering Derwent 8-0. Derwent battled as bravely as ever and Simon Noutch came closest to picking up a victory. He led Niall Cameron 2-1 and only missed out 15-13 in a desperately close fourth game. He eventually lost 11-6. 7-11, 11-7, 13-15, 7-11. Richard Smith was unlucky not to take Wilson Huart to a fifth end, having won the first game 11-7. Huart triumphed 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9.

Relgated Ellenborough also found it hard going against Ormesby, and were well beaten 7-1. Lorestas Trumpauskas scored an excellent opening match win over Michael Marsden 8-11, 11-3, 10-12, 13-11, 11-8 but even he could make no head-way against David Meads, with David easing home 11-7, 11-4, 11-5. Ellenborough Reserve Steve Kerns felt the full force of the Michael Marsden forehand and was crushed 11-4, 11-1, 11-4 in double quick time. The British League Scribe could certainly not complain that he didn’t have time to finish his Round three Report on this occasion !.
