Paul Drinkhall and Liam Pitchford have lost the men’s doubles final at the WTT Star Contender event in Doha to Korea’s Cho and An.

The English pair have played fantastically over the course of the competition, looking very good ahead of the Commonwealth Games next year in Birmingham.

However, the Korean partnership was too strong for them on this occasion, as they looked tightly organised and structured in their dominant win.

The English duo did look to be picking up speed in the second and third game, with a solid 11-4 victory in the second, but they were overcome in the third when it all looked to be in the bag for them.

More disappointment for Pitchford today as he lost to Brazil’s Hugo Calderano in the men’s singles semi-finals, taking away his chances of winning his first title. Calderano went on to beat Jorgic in the final to claim his first ever title.

Next up for Pitchford and Drinkhall is the European Team World Championships, where they’ll head to Romania with fellow team mates Sam Walker and Tom Jarvis, and the women’s team which consists of Tin-Tin Ho, Denise Payet, Maria Tsapsinos, Charlotte Bardsley and Kelly Sibley (coach/player).

RESULT:

Pitchford and Drinkhall lose to Cho and An 1-3 (7-11, 11-4, 9-11, 4-11).
