Val Murdoch from Letchworth has been honoured with two prestigious awards for her voluntary work with the table tennis community both locally and nationally.
At the Table Tennis England AGM, she was nominated as a Vice-President, which was approved unanimously by the 100+ delegates.
Val has served on the National Council for many years and was also chairman of the Women’s Committee is a county umpire and tournament referee.
At the AGM of the Veterans English Table Tennis Society, she was presented with the Mike Watts Award for service to the society as membership secretary and Executive Committee member for more than 25 years. The Society has nearly 1,000 members covering the United Kingdom and overseas.
Locally, she is the league secretary for both the North Herts Table Tennis Association and also the Luton and District Table Tennis League, with more than 400 members in total.
She is also member of the Nomination Committee of the International Table Tennis Federation, with over 220 affiliated, and was part of the European Women’s Working Party.
She has run a Satellite Grand Prix event at Hitchin Boys School for the last 10 years as referee, plus a Summer League at the same venue giving the opportunity for both young and older players to compete.
Val still plays in three local leagues, participates in national events including Women’s British League, Veterans’ British League and the national Grand Prix circuit, and has also participated in Veterans’ events around the world.
Val is married with four children and 5 grandchildren and despite her table Tennis commitments with her husband recently took 4 of her grandchildren for a week at Butlins Bognor Regis, no parents.
