At the Cheshire County Table Tennis Association AGM held at Halton Table Tennis Centre, Select Security Stadium, Widnes Doreen Schofield was unanimously elected President.

The position had been left vacant last year following the death of Terry Donlon, a star of the Ping pong film.

Doreen has played for Cheshire since 1958 and for many of those years has been secretary of one of the county teams. At the AGM she announced that she had decided not to be secretary for the three over-60s teams next season and did not want to register for the team or she would be tempted to play.

Doreen was not aware of the honour that was to be bestowed on her and couldn’t wait to get home to inform her husband Derek who also gave years of service to Cheshire.

The picture was taken after the meeting with Chairman of Cheshire Karen Tonge MBE as Doreen watched the players’ training session.
