With 25 points out of 30 Chelmsford A have been the dominant team in the first division of the Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League.
Edward Ogbebor has been the best player with a perfect unbeaten record in his 10 singles. They completed their programme with a 4-1 win over Liberal. Ogbebor was undefeated whereas Adrian Pitt made his mark for the Liberal side with a five-game win over Casey Cross (8-11, 11-8, 11-7, 10-12, 11-5).
Gary Ward was on top form for Ramsden A who beat OCs A 3-2. He beat Peter Windley 3-1 (11-7, 11-6, 3-11, 14-12). With Peter Barrett replacing Ward, Ramsden A missed out to Writtle A 3-2.
Barrett won both of his singles 3-0, downing the challenges of Ryan Pitt (11-5, 11- 5, 11-9) and Matthew Brown (11-6, 11-8, 14-12).
Ramsden A fielded both Ward and Barrett against Danbury A and it showed as they won 4-1. Chris Buer defeated Ward 3-1 (11-6, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9).
All that meant it was Ramsden A who finished second. Rayne finished third and they did well to beat Ramsden A 3-2 in their final fixture when Andrew Huckson excelled, defeating Ward 3-2 (11-6, 11-4, 8-11, 9-11, 11-4) and Barrett 3-1 (12-10, 11-9, 9-11, 11-4).
Division two isn’t concluded. Chelmsford B have 21 points from their six matches but Cold Norton A have 18 points with a match left to play. Represented by Victor Chan and Wiktor Delimat, Chelmsford B made no mistake in beating OCs B 5-0. Delimat won a really close encounter against Richard Baxter 3-1 (10-12, 15-13, 12-10, 13-11).
However things didn’t go their way when they played Writtle B and Chelmsford crashed 4-1. Lin Roff was on inspired form. She beat Victor Chan 3-2 (11-6, 8-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-8) and Delimat 3-1 (4-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-8).
This lets in Cold Norton A and they did well to beat Ramsden B 4-1. Neil Want beat both Gareth Davies (7-11, 11-4, 11-6, 7-11, 11-6) and Neil Freeman (12-10, 11-4, 13-11).
OCs B completed their fixtures with two wins. Robbie Burton was unbeaten in their 3-2 victories over Writtle B and Ramsden B.
Writtle B came out on top 3-2 against Ramsden B. Paul Sturton was undefeated for Writtle whilst Dave Calleja came out on top 3-2 (9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-13, 13-11) against Phil Smith in the closest game of the night. Ramsden B scored their first win of the season by beating Ramsden C 3-2. Neil Freeman won both of his singles.
OCS D top the division three table with 17 points from their six matches but it probably won’t be enough. Danbury B and Danbury C, who both have matches in hand, will almost certainly overtake them.
OCs D were represented by Mick Hayes and Michael Lucey against Chelmsford D who they beat 4-1. Hayes was undefeated on this occasion.
OCs E concluded their programme with a 3-2 win over Chelmsford D. Nat Ravlic and Dave Newman both won once although neither of them were able to beat Ryan Gooday.
Writtle C ran out 3-2 winners against Chelmsford C. Gordon Fairchild won both of the Chelmsford encounters at the death. He beat Dave Moles 3-2 (6-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-8, 13-11) and Steve Siggs also in five (10-12, 11-5, 11-8, 7-11, 13-11).
Division four is also still up for grabs. Ramsden D, who are third, have two matches left to play. They made no mistake against Chelmsford E and raced to a 5-0 win. Kevin Smart and Paul Mulley carried all before them although Mulley had to pull all the stops put to get the better of Harry Buckle 3-2 (2-11, 11-9, 11-8, 4-11, 11-9).
Cold Norton B also won 5-0. Terry Hyland and Roy Gandy gave nothing away against Chelmsford F although it was far from plain sailing for Hyland who just beat Andy Swales 3-2 (12-10, 13-11, 9-11, 6-11, 13-11). Writtle D (led by an undefeated David Meah) beat Chelmsford E 3-2.
Danbury E are division five champions with 24 points from a possible 30. But it could hardly have been closer. OCs G also have 24 points and Danbury E have won by virtue of having won all six of their matches.
OCs G completed their fixtures in style. They powered to a 5-0 win over Chelmsford Pumas with Luke Richardson and dad Mick carrying all before them.
Chelmsford G also won 5-0 to finish third with 21 points. Another father and son combination, Adi and Vineeth Kamma, captured all five games against Maldon. Chelmsford G beat Chelmsford Pumas 4-1 as well. Vineeth Kamma was undefeated and brother Sudheep picked up one singles win.
Chelmsford Jaguars scored an important 4-1 win over Chelmsford Tigers in the CLICK / sixth division. Melinda Abraham Victor and Annabel Sweeney won all four singles although they missed out in a tight doubles encounter against Elliot Gardiner and Louis Burnett 3-2 (10-12, 11-7, 11-2, 4-11, 8-11).
Chelmsford Rhinos were 4-1 winners against OCs H in a match where Harry Chivers won twice for the Chelmsford team. Chivers beat Tom Bird 3-1 (11-3, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8) and Josh Peasgood 3-1 (11-8, 4-11, 11-6, 11-8).
