The iconic Desmond Douglas MBE has been featured by Sky Sports as part of Black History Month.

Des is part of the broadcaster’s Hidden Figures online series, bringing to life the stories of under-the-radar sporting pioneers throughout Black History Month.

The article, which you can read by clicking here, tells the story of Des’ pathway from playing in a school classroom at lunchtime to becoming World No 7, an 11-time national singles champion and winner of various high-profile events.

Des has also given a video interview to ITTF commentator and University of Nottingham player Fraser Riley about his career experiences breaking through as a black sportsman in the 1970s, and says race and colour were the last things on his mind as he focused on improving his game and getting results.
