Table tennis personality Dan Ives went through the pain barrier and broke a world record to raise money for the NHS.

Dan, who runs TableTennisDaily, smashed the existing world record for consecutive bounces on a table tennis bat, which stood at 5 hours, 2 minutes and 37 seconds.

With the attempt streamed live on YouTube – as shown below – Dan went past that target and extended it to 5hrs 21min 01sec.

The event is raising money for NHS Charities Together – if you would like to make a donation via Dan’s JustGiving page, click here

Dan said: “Being stuck in lockdown I wanted to give myself a challenge and raise some money for the amazing NHS workers supporting us through these challenging times.

“The record was much harder than I had anticipated, it was pure mind over matter! Initially when I’d finished my arm was bad – I’d have put the pain at 80%. But it’s calmed down now and feels good.”

The world record will need to be officially ratified by Guinness, a process which can take up to 12 weeks.
