Nottinghamshire retained the County Championship Veterans’ Premier Division when the division was completed at Draycott and Long Eaton TTC as the East Midland county eased to the title by five points from runners-up Leicestershire and Yorkshire
The squad of Mark Short, Jason Rammage, Lee Neil and Sarah Short swept all before them, winning all seven matches over the two weekends, winning 60 of the 70 sets on offer and only dropping 10 sets.
The destination of the title was determined with a match still to play but with Leicestershire still having champions Notts to play and Yorkshire facing relegated Dorset it was second place that was still up for grabs.
With Yorkshire beating Dorset 9-1 it left Leicestershire to get two sets against Notts and in this case they managed three as Notts won 7-3, leaving Leicestershire as runners-up on a superior sets advantage over their Northern rivals.
Dorset bow out after two seasons back in the top flight and are joined by Northumberland who found life in the Premier Division a little hot and will have to lick their wounds for another season back in Division 1A.
